Lok Kalyan Samiti is an NGO based in New Delhi. It was founded by late Sh. Kalyan Singh Gupta and his co-workers in the year 1952, five years after India’s partition, to respond to the sufferings of lakhs of starving refugees in Delhi.

Milestones

Some of the important achievements in LKS’s journey are given below:

1952 :

  1. People’s Welfare Committee was formed for the medicare needs of refugees by Late Shri Kalyan Singh Gupta.

1955 :

  1. Started first “Mobile Dispensary” on a bicycle.

1957 :

  1. The Prime Minister, late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru donated Rs.3000/- towards purchase of a “Mobile Medical Van”.

1960 :

  1. LKS’s office from Jhandewalan moved to Sucheta Bhawan at Vishnu Digamber Marg New Delhi. Vice President, late Dr. S Radhakrishnan laid the foundation stone.

1964 :

  1. LKS Hospital building was inaugurated by the President, late Dr. Zakir Hussain.

1967 :

  1. Eye Care Programme started by organizing camps and providing spectacles.

1969 :

  1. Late Shri Kalyan Singh Gupta, The General Secretary was conferred “PadmaShree” by the President of India, Late Dr. Zakir Hussain In recognition of LKS’s Services to the poor and needy.

1971 :

  1. An International honour by the Norwegian Refugee Council came to LKS for its services for refugees.

1975 :

  1. LKS started FREE eye operations. Mobile Medical teams visited slums for screening for Cataract operations. Free Spectacles were also provided.
  2. LKS started its 1st Centre for the medical needs of slum dwellers at Nand Nagri in East Delhi.

1978 :

  1. LKS opened a 2nd Centre at Chakkarpur, Gurgaon to serve the elderly and the poor.

1980 :

  1. LKS won the coveted “Best Social Worker’s Fateh Chand Sharma Aradhak Award” given to General Secretary Late Shri Kalyan Singh Gupta.

1984 :

  1. A full-fledged Fundraising Department was started by Late Mrs. Kamlesh Gupta to mobilize local resources.

1989 :

  1. Late Shri K S Gupta played a pivotal role in organizing the first “South Asian Fundraising Workshop” at Delhi to help achieve self-sufficiency through Fund Raising.

1990 :

  1. LKS became fully self-sufficient through innovative efforts in fundraising.

1994 :

  1. “The Achievement Award 1994” was conferred on Late Shri Kalyan Singh Gupta by Shri Ram Washesharan Devi Bhatia Memorial Charitable Trust.

1995 :

  1. “The Best Social Worker Award” by the Nehru Bal Samiti and “Surya International Excellency Award” by the Jetty Foundation was given to LKS.

1996 :

  1. The state of-the art technique of Eye operations by “Phacoemulsification”(sutureless operation) was introduced in LKS.

1997 :

  1. A “Double Frequency ND Laser- Green Laser 532 N.M” was donated by Smt Shakuntala Mahesh Chandra for comprehensive eye checkup.

1998 :

  1. Homoeopathic Clinic Services started at LKS.

2002 :

  1. Golden Jubilee Year of LKS Shri Kalyan Singh Gupta, the founding General Secretary left for heavenly abode after serving LKS, for 50 years.

2003 :

  1. Congress President Smt Sonia Gandhi dedicates LKS’s mobile eye care van at Sohna (Haryana) as part of the 50 years celebration.

2004 :

  1. Late Mrs. Kamlesh Gupta, then the General Secretary received “Bharat Nirman Talented Ladies Award” by the Bharat Nirman (Build India) Organization.

2006 :

  1. The Chief Minister of Delhi, Smt Sheila Dikshit and the Mayor of Delhi Mr. Farhad Suri visited LKS and appreciated LKS’s historical medical contributions for the poor.
  2. 1000th Eye Operation Camp was held on 29.3.2007.

2009 :

  1. Retina Services started with significant investment in High End Machine for detection.
  2. Donor Management Information System through computerization was introduced in LKS.
  3. Started LKS website and accepting donations online.

2010 :

  1. “National Award 2009 for Child Welfare” by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Govt of India was conferred to General Secretary Mrs. Harita Gupta in November 2010.
  2. 1100th Eye Operation camp held on 18th February 2010.
  3. Dental OPD started at Chakkarpur Centre.

2011 :

  1. Launch of “Diabetes and Thyroid Care Centre” by the Minister of Food & Civil Supplies (Govt. of Delhi) on 12th February 2011.
  2. LKS restored eye sight to 44,193 patients since cataract elimination campaign commenced. As on 31st March 2011, the number of free surgery camps stood at 1145.
  3. Computerization of complete hospital management system.
  4. “Autoref with Keratometer” for refraction correction started in all 3 Centres w.e.f. April 2011.
  5. Free treatment of Retinopathy by Avastin injections started.

2012 :

  1. Launch of the “Physiotherapy Centre” by Principal Secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (Govt of Delhi), on 6th February 2012.

2013 :

  1. New Phaco Emulsification machine was inducted, to reinforce the existing facilities of cataract surgery.
  2. Award conferred on LKS General Secretary, Mrs Harita Gupta, by Gurgaon First in Collaboration with Artemis Hospital for bringing positive changes in lives of people in Gurgaon on “International Women’s Day” on March 8.

2014 :

  1. Apollo Pharmacy Enterprises Ltd started a medical counter in LKS on 10th June 2014 to Serve the patients.

2015 :

  1. Award conferred on LKS General Secretary, Mrs. Harita Gupta by Ahimsa International “Premchand Sanjay Jain Rogi Chikitsa” for Medical services on 8th March 2015.
  2. New ECG Machine & X-Ray Machine were inducted at Chakkarpur Centre.
  3. Phaco Emulsification Machine, Green Laser, Yag Laser, Surgical Microscope & Slit Lamp were inducted to enhance the facilities for Eye Care Programme.

2016 :

  1. One New Surgical Microscope were inducted in Eye OT Department to strengthen our Eye Care Programme.
  2. One New A-Scan Biometer Machine were introduced in Eye Department of Nand Nagri Centre as well as Chakkarpur Centre of Gurgaon.
  3. One New Bio-Chemistry Analyser was inducted at Laboratory of Sucheta Bhawan to give better services to the patients.
  4. New Automatic Dental Chair & Dental X-ray Machine were inducted at Sucheta Bhawan to impart valuable services to the patients.
  5. New Physiotherapy Equipments were inducted at Chakkarpur Centre for better services.

2017 :

  1. New Recumbent Bike was inducted at Chakkarpur Centre Physiotherapy Department to enhance the facility for patients.
  2. New ELISA Reader was inducted at Laboratory of Chakkarpur Centre to give better services to the patients.
  3. New ELISA Reader was inducted at Laboratory of Head Office New Delhi to give better services to the patients.

2018 :

  1. New Biochemistry Analyzer machine (Erba Chem - 7) was inducted at Chakkarpur Lab to give better services to the patients.
  2. Foldable Lenses Services was implemented at all three centres.

2019 :

  1. New Slit Lamp with Tonometer was inducted at Chakkarpur Centre to provide better services to the patients.
  2. Basic Computer Hardware Course started at Nand Nagri Centre.
  3. Beauty Training Programme started at Nand Nagri Centre.
  4. Ward was refurbished completely.
  5. New Microscope for our Operation theatre.
  6. Celebration of Completion of 54000 Cataract Surgeries. All guests and donors are invited.
  7. Purchase two computers MS-2016, Home Edition 2 UPS for Nand Nagri Centre.
  8. Purchase Comb U.S. 1 & 3 MHZ + Tens 4 Ch, Finger Ladder Bar, Traction Belt and IFT 40
  9. Prog LCD Computerized for Physiotherapy Department for Chakkarpur Centre.
  10. Purchase 8 Tables & 32 Chairs for balwadi classes for Nand Nagri Centre.
  11. Purchase New Hematology Analyzer for Chakkarpur Centre.
  12. H. Pylori Test Services inducted at HO & Chakkarpur Lab to give better services to the patients.
  13. LKS was felicitated with “North India Leadership Award-2019” on 20.12.2019 for Medical Services in NGO Category, by ET Now.

2020 :

  1. Inspiration for Generations Award 2020 by NNHSA to LKS General Secretary on 8th March 2020 (Women’s Day).
  2. Purchase New Hematology Analyzer for HO to provide better services to the patients.

2021 :

  1. Digital X-Ray Machine inducted at LKS HO.
  2. Portable Vitrectomy Machine inducted at HO Operation Theatre to give better services to the patients.
  3. Orthodontist Service started at HO w.e.f. Feb 2021.
  4. One New Surgical Microscope were inducted in Eye OT Department to strengthen our Eye Care Programme.
  5. Glaucoma services started at HO w.e.f. 17th June 2021.
  6. Humphrey Visual Field Analyzer (HVF) inducted in Eye OPD Department for Glaucoma Testing.
  7. Non-Contact Tonometer (NCT) Equipment inducted in Eye OPD Department to check Corneal Thickness and Pressure of Eye Patients.
  8. Acupressure Services started at our Chakkarpur Centre Gurgaon.
  9. Paytm Services started at Chakkarpur Centre w.e.f. July 2021.
  10. Distribution of Lenovo E-Tablets to children in our school in Nand Nagri Centre.
  11. Ophthalmic A Scan were inducted in Eye OT Department to strengthen our Eye Care Programme.

2022 :

  1. Distribution of Lenovo E-Tablets to children in our school in Nand Nagri Centre by Shri Nagendra Shekhar Patil Tripathi ADM Central Delhi.
  2. Ophthalmic A Scan were inducted in Eye OT Department to strengthen our Eye Care Program.
  3. Free Health Check-up camp for central range police was organized at Head Office and the chief guest was Additional CP Delhi Police, Ms. Suman Goyal, and DCP North District, Mr. Sagar Singh.
  4. 2 Channel Electrotherapy/Ultrasound Combo Model EU-921 was inducted in Physiotherapy Department LKS HO.
  5. Boyles Apparatus (Minor) Anesthesia Machine installed at LKS OT.
  6. Wireless Led medical headlight is added in the ENT Department for enhancing the capability of the procedures.
  7. Online feedback through E-tablet was introduced in OPD to make further improvements in the services provided by LKS.
  8. IMWA Award Conferred on LKS General Secretary, Mrs. Harita Gupta on 9th Aug’2022.
  9. The Philips GS20 monitor was installed at LKS OT. It provides advanced functionalities for various clinical data.
  10. 75 th Independence Day celebrated by organizing a best selfie & video competition with our national flag for the staff.
  11. Patient welfare Series was conducted in which different doctors have given talks on the importance of health-related topics on medically important days like World Mental, Pneumonia, arthritis, Diabetes, Osteoporosis, and Aids, Days.
  12. Distribution of School Bags to children in our school at Nand Nagri Centre by Shri Akshay Kumar (ACP Delhi Police) on the occasion of Children’s Day.
